FL-MD — Recent Changes
M.D. Fla. — The current edition of the M.D.
The current edition of the M.D. Fla. local rules is effective November 1, 2025. The rules cover Chapters One through Seven plus reference tables cross-referencing Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure to local rules.
The November 1, 2025 rules are a comprehensive revision. Notable features of the current rules:
- Typography rules (L.R. 1.08) are detailed and prescriptive, specifying exact typefaces, point sizes, spacing, and character formatting. The rules expressly limit approved typefaces to five serifed fonts at 13-point (Book Antiqua, Calisto MT, Century Schoolbook, Georgia, Palatino) or Times New Roman at 14-point.
- Title requirements (L.R. 1.09) specify mandatory words for a range of paper types, including class actions, collective actions, derivative actions, TRO motions, preliminary injunction motions, and papers requesting declaratory relief.
- Sealing (L.R. 1.11) establishes a detailed procedure requiring a motion, legal memorandum, and proposed seal duration; seals expire 90 days after case closure and exhaustion of appeals.
- Conferral certificate (L.R. 3.01(g)) requires a specifically titled section — "Local Rule 3.01(g) Certificate" — within the motion itself.
- No-reply default (L.R. 3.01(e)) expressly provides that no response to a motion for leave to reply is permitted.
Practitioners should verify the current rules directly at flmd.uscourts.gov/local-rules before filing. Individual judge standing orders may impose additional or different requirements.
