The M.D. Fla. local rules are the floor, not the ceiling. L.R. 1.01(b) expressly permits judges to modify or suspend application of any rule: "If reasonably necessary to achieve the purpose of these rules, a judge can temporarily modify or suspend the application of any rule, except Local Rule 1.05(a)."
In practice, M.D. Fla. judges routinely issue individual standing orders and chambers procedures that address:
- Page limits different from L.R. 3.01 defaults
- Summary judgment procedures including statement-of-facts requirements
- Specific scheduling order templates and deadlines
- Hearing and telephonic conference procedures
- Discovery dispute resolution protocols (some judges require a joint notice or letter before a discovery motion)
- Courtroom decorum requirements beyond L.R. 5.03
