Mewburn Ellis Names Andy Newland as First CTO to Lead AI Adoption and Digital Transformation
Mewburn Ellis, the UK intellectual property firm, has appointed Andy Newland to a newly created chief technology officer role, the first in the firm's history. Newland, an internal promotion, will oversee technology strategy, AI adoption and digital transformation. The firm announced the appointment on 21 October 2026, and Law360 covered it the same day. Newland has been with Mewburn Ellis for 15 years, most recently as IT director, where he led the build of Castle, a bespoke case management system, and a NetDocuments project that won an award for AI innovation. The move follows the firm's adoption of Microsoft Copilot and the specialist legal AI platforms Solve Intelligence and Legora.
