Why it matters

Bloomberg announced on October 15, 2026, that ASKB, the Terminal's conversational AI interface, is now generally available to financial professionals. Clients can now bring their own Instant Bloomberg chats, Worksheets, and files into AI conversations. Uploaded files now persist, where before they disappeared when a conversation thread ended. The Wall Street Journal's Steve Rosenbush first reported the expansion, noting that more than one-third of all Bloomberg Terminal subscribers now use the tool.

Bloomberg says client material remains permissioned and distinct from its own sources, but that assurance comes from the company, and the open question is whether clients will trust answers that combine their private material with Bloomberg's market data. Wayne Barlow, Bloomberg's Global Head of Core Terminal Products, and Shawn Edwards, its Chief Technology Officer, said the feedback they hear most often concerns trust.

ASKB has moved quickly. Bloomberg launched it in beta on February 24, 2026, and by April, about a third of the Terminal's 375,000 users had access. The product is model agnostic, combining proprietary and open-weight large language models. For attorneys advising clients who use the Terminal, the practical questions are what clients upload, how permissioning is documented in their agreements, and how Bloomberg handles that material. With roughly 40 million IB chats sent each day, the volume of data involved is large.
