PA-ED — Formatting & Page Limits
E.D. Pa. — PA-ED has no district-wide page or word limit on motion briefs.
PA-ED has no district-wide page or word limit on motion briefs. Each judge sets her own. Among our 10-court sample, PA-ED is the most permissive at the district level; every other sample district prescribes a district-wide cap.
Mechanics
- District-wide (Rule 7.1): Governs motion practice (form-of-order requirement, 14-day opposition deadline) but does not specify a page or word limit.
- Per judge: Check the assigned judge's standing order on paed.uscourts.gov.
- Habeas § 2254 / § 2255 proceedings (Rules 9.3, 22.4): Specific procedural rules governing non-capital habeas petitions.
