Key Traps — Where Counsel Gets Caught
- 1. Chambers email is for proposed orders ONLY — counsel may NOT email the court or chambers for any other purpose, including status inquiries
- 2. Counsel are barred from contacting the judge's law clerk or secretary — all status inquiries route through the deputy clerk
- 3. No mandatory chambers copies by default — copies required only for ex parte applications, TROs, injunctions, voluminous documents, or when specifically requested
- 4. Mandatory chambers copies (when required) must be dropped at Room 1200, 12th Floor Roybal by NOON of the court day following e-filing
- 5. Civil motions customarily heard Fridays at 9:30 a.m. — Friday 9:30 dates do not need to be cleared with the deputy clerk before filing
- 6. LR 6 rule for personally-served notices governs electronic service — do not assume federal default service math applies
