Key Traps — Where Counsel Gets Caught

  1. 1. Chambers email is for proposed orders ONLY — counsel may NOT email the court or chambers for any other purpose, including status inquiries
  2. 2. Counsel are barred from contacting the judge's law clerk or secretary — all status inquiries route through the deputy clerk
  3. 3. No mandatory chambers copies by default — copies required only for ex parte applications, TROs, injunctions, voluminous documents, or when specifically requested
  4. 4. Mandatory chambers copies (when required) must be dropped at Room 1200, 12th Floor Roybal by NOON of the court day following e-filing
  5. 5. Civil motions customarily heard Fridays at 9:30 a.m. — Friday 9:30 dates do not need to be cleared with the deputy clerk before filing
  6. 6. LR 6 rule for personally-served notices governs electronic service — do not assume federal default service math applies
