Judge Terry J. Hatter Jr. -- United States District Court, Central District of California
Courtroom 9C, 9th Floor, First Street Courthouse, Los Angeles
warning
Key Traps — Where Counsel Gets Caught
- 1. Civil motions are noticed for Mondays but Judge Hatter takes ALL civil motions under submission on the calendared date — no oral argument by default; notice 'no appearance necessary'
- 2. Motion calendar is limited to the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month; if Monday is a holiday, skip to the following Monday (not next available day)
- 3. Mandatory chambers copies of ALL e-filed documents required — delivered to the Clerk's Office 4th Floor Customer Service Window (350 W. 1st Street) by 12 noon the next business day, stamped 'COURT COPY'
- 4. Each chambers copy must include the CM/ECF header on every page AND the Notice of Electronic Filing (NEF) as the LAST page — miss either and the copy is non-compliant
- 5. Proposed orders must be emailed in WordPerfect or Microsoft Word to TJH_Chambers@cacd.uscourts.gov — plain PDF submission alone will not process the stipulation
- 6. Counsel must NOT contact the judge's law clerks; telephonic status inquiries about stipulations or motions will not be returned
- 7. Continuance requests: alert the Courtroom Deputy Clerk no later than 3 days before the scheduled hearing if the court has not yet acted on the stipulation
- 8. Ex parte applications for TROs or under seal filings must be filed at the Clerk's Office filing window — sanctions may issue for misuse of ex parte process
