Why it matters

Spencer Fane LLP announced on April 8, 2026, that it will merge with Conner & Winters LLP, effective July 1, 2026. The combination adds more than 75 attorneys to Spencer Fane's roster and marks the Kansas City firm's largest merger to date. Conner & Winters, founded in 1933 and based in Tulsa, maintains practices in energy, construction, health care, litigation, finance, and complex commercial matters. The deal expands Spencer Fane's footprint across Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, with offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Northwest Arkansas, Dallas, and Houston. This is Spencer Fane's third combination in 2026.

Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen and Conner & Winters Managing Partner R. Kevin Redwine cited cultural and economic alignment as drivers of the merger. Post-combination, Spencer Fane will operate over 700 attorneys across 33 offices nationwide, building on recent expansions into New York, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Santa Fe, and Washington, D.C. The firm has shifted its integration model to 90+ attorney-led Market Teams designed for faster consolidation.

The merger reflects Spencer Fane's decade-long growth strategy centered on culturally compatible combinations. For practitioners, the deal signals continued consolidation in the regional market and triples Spencer Fane's presence in Oklahoma at a time when firms are competing aggressively for national platform capabilities in high-demand practice areas.
