Judge Gabriel A. Fuentes -- United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois

1342, Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse, 219 S. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60604

warning

Key Traps — Where Counsel Gets Caught

  1. 1. Do NOT notice motions before Judge Fuentes. The Court sets all hearing dates, briefing schedules, or decides on the papers after filing. Noticing a motion may result in the notice being disregarded.
  2. 2. All electronically filed documents (except exhibits) MUST be generated by printing to PDF from the original word processing file -- scanned PDFs may only be used for appendix or reference materials not available otherwise.
  3. 3. Social Security briefs are capped at 15 pages -- the shortest limit in the courthouse. Leave of Court required for anything longer.
  4. 4. The Final Pretrial Order form used by Judge Fuentes VARIES from Local Rule 16.1 -- always obtain and use Judge Fuentes' Standing Order for consent cases rather than relying on the district form.
  5. 5. Proposed orders may only be submitted AFTER the corresponding motion has been filed -- not before, unless the Court grants prior leave.
  6. 6. Professional conduct is actively monitored. Judge Fuentes explicitly calls attention to the Seventh Circuit Standards for Professional Conduct and Illinois Rules 3.1-3.5 and 8.4.
  7. 7. In-person joint initial status report typically required within one week before the first status hearing (unless a recent one is on file).
