Does the court permit counsel to contact chambers? Yes. However, counsel should review all orders in the case, the Local Rules, the Federal Rules, and this website before contacting chambers.

Does the court accept proposed orders? No, unless requested by the court. In the limited cases in which the court requests a proposed order, it should be emailed to the chambers inbox in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.

A United States magistrate judge in the Middle District can exercise the maximum authority and perform any duty permitted by the Constitution and other laws of the United States. The chief judge must issue and publicize with the local rules an administrative order that delineates the authority and describes the duties of a United States magistrate judge.
